The longshoremen’s union president credits President-elect Trump as “one of the best friends of working men and women in the United States.“
The International Longshoremen’s Union and the U.S. Maritime Alliance came to a preliminary labor agreement this week, averting an Eastern and Gulf port strike that would have gone into effect January 15.
The entities jointly stated, “This agreement protects current ILA jobs and establishes a framework for implementing technologies that will create more jobs while modernizing East and Gulf coast ports – making them safer and more efficient, and creating the capacity they need to keep our supply chains strong.” Both sides must still ratify the agreement.
The ILA president expressed appreciation for President-elect Trump’s “unwavering support for our ILA union and longshore workers with his statement ‘heard round the world‘ backing our position to protect American longshore jobs against the ravages of automated terminals.”
President Biden responded to the tentative agreement, stating, “I applaud the dockworkers’ union for delivering a strong contract. Their members kept our ports open during the pandemic, as we worked together to unsnarl global supply chains. Thank you to the carriers and port operators who play an essential role in our nation’s economy.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- With gratitude to the Lord that a tentative agreement will keep the supply chain running.
- For wisdom for the president-elect as he lays the groundwork for his second term.
